Glastonbury is a different and rather lively small town. It has rich traditions, a cosmopolitan community and a taste of tomorrow. It sits on the ancient Isle of Avalon in the Somerset Levels, with a backdrop of soft, green, rolling hills.

It has been a pilgrimage place for thousands of years. In the Middle Ages a great abbey was here - it was England's 'holyest earthe'.

It now hosts the famous Glastonbury Festival, pilgrimages, music, a carnival, several conferences and other events. People visit from the world over, seeking a certain special something....

Overlooking it all is Glastonbury Tor, a fascinating holy hill.

Tradition has it that Jesus visited and Joseph of Arimathaea built a church here, King Arthur and Guinevere were buried here and it was an ancient place of the Goddess. It was home to the medieval saints Patrick, Dunstan, Benedict, David and Bridget.

Today it is a unique, atmospheric town of nearly 10,000 people with a mixture of locals, incomers and spiritual seekers. For a hundred years it has been a mecca for 'cultural creatives' and an interfaith town.

GLASTONBURY ASSEMBLY ROOMS

High St, Glastonbury, Somerset, BA6 9DU

The Case for Sacred Space

The Assembly Rooms are a sacred space. While compared to the Abbey, which is on the other side of our back wall, the Assembly Rooms is rather new (built in the mid 19th Century). But it has been used over the years as a center for the alternative spirit of Glastonbury. The interior of the big room is a phi rectangle, and various dowsers have confirmed that the Earth Energies are there as well.

Many people can vouch for their experiences in these Rooms have been on a high spiritual level, and while the Rooms are open to all kinds of community activities, it is the experience of the sacred that we want to promote here. Many different events are offered for the spiritual traveller. It is a place of Celebration of the Yearly Cycle of Quarter and Cross Quarter Day Celebrations.

As well as being special to the people who live here, the Isle of Avalon is a place of spiritual significance to people all over the world. In acknowledging this role which Glastonbury has played and will play in the future of the planet, the Assembly Rooms will be a unique centre linking people in the wider world with those in the Glastonbury community and vice versa.

It is envisaged that the Assembly Rooms will develop its own rhythm of celebration. Building on the custom in the Assembly Rooms, we will regularly celebrate the ancient natural festivals of the summer and winter solstices, the spring and autumn equinoxes, and the four cross quarter days. We wil encourage people of al faiths and spiritua paths to use the Assembly Rooms' facilities for meetings, meditations and celebrations. Here the many strands of our different paths can meet. Together we can re-create the building as a truly sacred place.

We recognise that this vision can only have substance if people come forward to make it so, and trust that the spirit which brought us to Glastonbury has guided us wisely in the preparation of this share prospectus. We entrust it now to you.
